Treat resilience as a skill
We recommend treating resilience as a skill similar to other organisational and personal skills. Not only by providing training, but also by establishing a culture of personal and collective responsibility to nurture its growth. This is, of course, easier to do when not in a crisis.
Being effective in a crisis requires expertise, assets and a certain organisational mindset. All this will not arise overnight. You can prepare for the crisis by ensuring your team or organisation has the ability to change direction quickly. Build working structures that do not lock in resources for long periods and adopt working methods such that create a flexible mindset as part of your organisation’s culture.
In order to capitalise on the short windows of opportunity during the early phase of a crisis, capacities and networks have to be built well in advance and ready to be activated when the time comes.
