The Ministry of the Future

Building youth agency for a Just Energy Transition in Indonesia.

The Project:

The Ministry of The Future is a national youth empowerment initiative by Mindworks Lab that reimagines how Indonesian youth engage with the country’s energy transition. Through participatory research, storytelling, and creative experimentation, the project transforms climate anxiety into agency by connecting young people across 100+ universities and 80+ cities. Partnering with organisations like CERAH, Trend Asia, and KokBisa, it builds pathways for youth to explore their role in shaping a just energy transition. From local dialogues to national assemblies, the initiative creates spaces where ideas turn into collaboration and imagination becomes action.

Our Approach:

Our approach focused on transforming uncertainty into participation by starting with how young people feel about the energy transition. We used emotional mapping and participatory workshops to listen deeply, then co-designed interventions that linked their aspirations to tangible pathways for change. Through dialogue formats like FutureTalks, creative experimentation in the Action Lab, and collective spaces such as Temu Aksi Muda, we turned research insights into real experiences of agency. Collaboration with creators, CSOs, and universities ensured ideas spread beyond the activist bubble. At every step, storytelling and empathy were used as tools to turn awareness into action.

“I started realizing one of my strengths that I hadn’t really taken seriously before: my ability to think and act like a creative strategist. Not just coming up with ideas, but actually testing them in ways that feel real, doable, and fun for others too.”
